| Annual Spring Golf Event |
 |
Sponsored by the Randleman Chamber
of Commerce, The Richard Petty-Randolph County Golf Classic
has been successful since its first year in 1989. Drawing golfers
from as far away as Maryland, Pennsylvania and Texas, the tournament
attracts 200 participants each year.
In 2003, the Randleman Chamber of Commerce made a decision to pledge the proceeds of the tournament to pay for the construction of the Welcome Center at the Victory Junction Gang Camp, which is located in Randleman. Victory Junction Gang Camp was founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and is part of the national Paul Newman Hole-in-the-Wall Camps. According to David Caughron, Executive Director of the Randleman Chamber of Commerce, “Because of all that the Petty family has contributed to our community over the years . . . on behalf of our community, it is a pleasure for the Randleman Chamber of Commerce to pledge these funds to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in honor of the Petty family”. The construction cost for “The Randleman Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center” at Victory Junction has a price tag of $250,000 and it will take several years for the Chamber to fulfill its pledge, however, the community is proud to be a part of this important camp.
The annual springtime tournament is a one-day event, and takes
place at a country club in Randolph Country. Many of the golfers
are either NASCAR drivers, or are associated in some way with
NASCAR. The event is thoroughly enjoyable for all, and has been
sold out in advance for the past several years.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a team, or signing on as an individual golfer to be assigned to a team, should contact the Chamber office at 336-495-1100 for an application to be sent to you. |
